This session highlights the direct application of PT skills to empower clients with ‘real life’ participation in adaptive sports. PTs are uniquely qualified to support clients of all ages with highly varied impairments - neurologic, orthopedic, and sensory - to participate safely and successfully in sports. Whether client goals are specific to novice introduction, elite competition, or somewhere between, positive outcomes are guaranteed when sports are included. Case examples with photos and videos will demonstrate key points and relevant research will be emphasized to support evidence-based practice. Strategies for injury prevention and treatment, program development, and clinical education including equipment/seating/prosthetic limb interventions, athlete classification and sport training techniques will be shared. Time will be dedicated to demonstration, hands-on practice, and discussion.
